# Slack Integration

> Install the Kolaria agent in Slack to chat, draft, and approve content from threads, mirrored into the dashboard

The Slack integration installs the Kolaria agent in your workspace. Mention it in a channel or message it directly to chat, turn a thread into a draft, save references, and approve actions with buttons. Public-channel conversations are mirrored into the dashboard so the rest of your team can read them.

## What you can do

* **Chat with the agent in threads**: mention the app in a channel. Once the agent owns a thread, plain replies in that thread continue the same conversation without another mention.
* **Direct messages**: message the app directly from its Messages tab.
* **Draft from a thread**: ask the agent to turn a discussion or announcement into a post. Drafts are saved to your Kolaria content library and the agent confirms with "Saved as a draft".
* **Save references**: ask the agent to remember something for brand context. It confirms with "Saved as a reference".
* **Approve with buttons**: actions that need a human decision, including posting to X, show confirmation buttons in the thread.
* **Mirrored history**: public-channel threads with the agent appear as read-only sessions under **Chat** in the dashboard.
* **Notifications**: pick a channel where the agent posts activity updates, such as new drafts and completed work.

## Install

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the Slack card">
    In the dashboard sidebar, open **Integrations** and click **Connect** on the **Slack** card, or open the Slack page and click **Add to Slack**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Approve the installation">
    The **Add Slack Integration** dialog explains what happens next. Click **Add to Slack**. Slack shows the permissions listed below; approve them for the workspace you want to connect. The link is valid for 10 minutes.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose where the agent responds">
    Back in Kolaria, the Slack page shows the connected workspace with two settings cards, **Channel access** and **Notifications channel**. See below.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Mention the app">
    In Slack, mention the app in an allowed channel or open a DM with it. If the agent is not enabled in a channel it replies: "The Kolaria agent is not enabled in this channel. An admin can enable it from the Slack integration settings in the Kolaria dashboard."
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Settings

### Channel access

Everyone in your workspace can use the agent. People outside your workspace, including Slack Connect guests, cannot. By default the agent responds anywhere it is mentioned. Turn on **Limit to specific channels** and select channels to restrict it; use **Refresh channels from Slack** if a new channel is missing from the list. Click **Save changes** to apply.

<Tip>
  Approval buttons in a shared channel can be pressed by anyone who can see them. Limit the agent to channels whose members you trust to approve actions.
</Tip>

### Notifications channel

Choose a channel where the agent posts activity updates. Set it to none to turn notifications off.

### Enable, disable, delete

From the workspace card menu you can disable the integration (the agent stops responding), re-enable it, or delete it. Deleting removes the stored bot token from Kolaria; also remove the app from Slack to revoke access there.

## Permissions

The Slack app requests these bot scopes:

| Scope | Why |
| - | - |
| `app_mentions:read` | Receive mentions of the app |
| `chat:write` | Reply in threads and post notifications |
| `channels:history`, `groups:history` | Read the thread the agent was mentioned in, in public and private channels |
| `channels:read`, `groups:read` | Resolve channel names and visibility for the channel picker and mirroring |
| `im:history` | Read direct messages sent to the app |
| `files:read` | Read attachments shared with the agent |
| `assistant:write` | Enable Slack's assistant experience for the app |

The agent only reads a thread once it is mentioned or messaged in it. It does not scan channels for keywords or emoji reactions, and it does not read other threads. Private-channel and DM conversations are not mirrored into the dashboard.

## Limits

* One connection per Slack workspace, and a workspace can belong to only one Kolaria organization. Connecting it again shows "This Slack workspace is already connected".
* Slack conversations count against your organization's agent usage like dashboard chat does.
* Slack is a chat channel for the agent, not a data source for schedules. Use GitHub, Linear, or Granola for that.
